PBiS refers to a process of change for an entire school or district. The central theme is teaching behavioral expectations in the same manner as a core subject.
The school is focusing on three behavioral expectations that are positively stated and easy to remember. In other words, instead of telling students what not to do, we are focusing on the desired behaviors.
Blue Mountain Union School’s expectations are:
Make Good Decisions
Unleash Your Potential
Desired behaviors were introduced, taught and modeled. Students were then reinforced for practicing positive behaviors through recognition and reward. Teaching behavioral expectations and rewarding students for following them is a more positive method than reacting to negative behaviors.
